Damp

Damp should never be ignored.  As well as decorative and structural damage, it can cause a health hazard.  Detecting the source of the problem is often the hardest but most important step to reaching a solution.

Horton Levi damp detection surveys include in-depth physical inspections, endoscope intrusive investigations and 8-13 micron infra-red scanning of walls and roofs.  Applications include:

  • flat roof moisture ingress

  • window leakage

  • penetrating damp

  • d.p.c. effectiveness

  • floods - individual buildings and
    aerial mapping

  • cladding panels

  • bridge and tunnel inspection

  • cavity walls

The circled area in the image below shows where moisture has seeped in beneath the window and soaked the insulation.  This infra-red image is an example of how this wavelength provides a visualisation of heat energy conducting through moisture.

Using the infra-red information as a location guide, small bore holes can be drilled through  walls or panelling to allow an endoscopic probe to be inserted.  A wide angled view within a cavity can then visually confirm the situation, recording pictures for subsequent printing and archiving.
